Potato shochu “Hokkaido Kiyosato”

North latitude 44°, at the foot of the Shiretoko mountains in Kiyosato-cho, Hokkaido, is the only Shochu brewery in Japan operated by a local government. In 1975, the first white potato shochu in Japan was created by the inhabitants of this town. In 2014, reaching for a quality to be loved by people around the world, the concept and design of the Shochu was renewed to promote Kiyosato-cho as a culturally rich agricultural village. This project values human connection and is developed through discussion and communication with the village’s inhabitants. It is aimed to develop the inhabitants’ pride in their village along with the product itself.
北緯44度、知床半島の麓に位置する北海道清里町。この町に日本で唯一行政が運営する焼酎醸造所があります。1975年、日本最初のじゃがいも焼酎は、この地で町自らの手によって誕生しました。そして時を経た2014年、世界の人々に愛されるクオリティを目指し、豊かな風土息づく清里町を世界に誇れる「農業の町」として示すシンボルとして、コンセプト・デザインなどすべてを刷新しました。町民の方々との交流、プレゼンなどを経て積み上げてきた過程には、ただ物をつくるという以上に、人々の誇りをつくりたいという願いがあります。人とのつながりを大切にして取り組んでいるプロジェクトです。
